Humans have consumed dairy for millennia with very little change to the harvesting process. We’ve come a long way with cows, they provide us with some of our favourite foods, but how about we give them a break; it’s time we had an alternative.
Our Process
01 The Last Harvest
A new era of milk begins with a bovine mammary cell. Harvested from a cow once, this is the last time an animal will be used for our milk.
02-03 Growth
The cells readily proliferate in cell culture flasks, where they are immersed in a growth medium to kick-start their development.
04-06 Meet your New Udder
Once cultivated in sufficient numbers the cells are moved to a bioreactor tuned to replicate the conditions actually present in a cow udder.
An animal-free Fetal bovine serum replacement, nutritious cocktail, and lactation hormones are used to encourage healthy cell growth and lactose production.
Purification and Harvest
We collect the milk from the bioreactor and analyze it, confirming that it has the same concentrations of protein, sugar, and fat as milk directly from a cow.
The milk is purified, tailored to specific culinary or industrial processes, (e.g., lactose-free, fat %) dried, and then sent to our commercial partners where it will function identically to traditional milk.
